Psychotherapy and Counselling in Deal, Kent, and in easy reach of Dover, Canterbury, Sandwich, Ramsgate, Broadstairs and Folkestone

Hello and welcome to my website.

My name is Brendan McLoughlin and I have been a psychotherapist for over 40 years. Based in Deal in Kent, and readily accesible from Dover, Canterbury, Sandwich, Ramsgate and Broadstairs, I am commited to offering counselling and psychotherapy in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment. I offer supervision and consultaion to other counsellors and psychotherapists and other practitioners in the caring professions who want to develop their understanding of the dynamics of therapeutic relationships. As a former Trappist monk and with an engagement with Buddhist teaching and practice, I also offer spiritual accompaniment for anyone wishing to deepen their spiritual awareness and practice.

I have developed a way of working as a counsellor and therapist, that aims to honour and respect the experience of each individual and which seeks to promote genuine growth and well-being. My training at WPF Therapy in London and experience and practice in London and Bath and in a variety of settings in the charitable sector, the NHS and in private practice, have given me a broad grounding in counselling and psychotherapy with individuals, couples and groups and in time limited and openended counselling, therapy and supervision. I have been involved in the training and supervision of other counsellors and psychotherapists, have written about psychodynamic counselling and have chaired the Analytic Network in Bath for over 20 years. I have pursued a commitment to ongoing professional development in counselling and psychotherapy throughout my practice. I am interested in developing a counselling and psychotherapy forum for other practitioners in Deal, Dover, Canterbury, Sandwich, Ramsgate, Broadstairs and Folkstone and in Kent generally. For more information about my training, qualifications and approach, please go to the other headings on the menu.

In my work as a counsellor, therapist and supervisor, and in my role in spiritual accompaniment, I am interested in finding ways to meet the needs of each individual client as they try to work through their problems and achieve a better understanding of themselves. As a counsellor and psychotherapist, I work from the position of respecting the reality and experience of each person, including their ability, ethnicity, age, belief, gender and sexual orientation. I have a particular interest in working with difference and work from an affirmitive stance with gay and lesbian clients. In my work in spiritual accompaniment, I practise a contemplative approach to the experience of presence and openness in the spiritual journey.

For clients in Kent and elsewhere, who are some distance from Deal, I am able to offer online consultations.

I offer counselling, psychotherapy and supervision for individuals and couples and spiritual accompaniment for individuals, from my practice just in the centre of the historic town of Deal in Kent and within easy reach of Dover, Canterbury, Sandwich, Ramsgate, Broadstairs, Margate and Folkestone.

I am easily accessible by car and public transport, just a few minutes walk from Deal Station. There is on street parking.
